Good evening and welcome to the Tuesday December 19th, 2023 special meeting of this Contra Costa of the Walnut Creek City Council.
This is.
Is anybody in the audience here to have a comment?
On the item, that's on the agenda for upstairs or is that OK, then please come forward.
Okay good afternoon council members and thank you all for your service to the
community. My name is Mike Weens. I've been with the city over 30 years. I'm
currently a building inspector with the building division and I'm here to talk
about pickleball. I know tonight you're meeting with the
negotiator. It's gonna be some, maybe some, I've been through this negotiations
before and I know it can be tumultuous and difficult, but I, I trust that, I mean
we know that you, we hope that you will decide something that's fair and
equitable for all the members and all the employees within the city. This year
is a little different in that a great deal of people, not just city employees, are suffering
from the effects of inflation. I've seen the frustration of my coworkers as we have been
in a five-year contract that has not tied increases to the consumer price index. And
we are or will be this January 9.9, let's say 10 percent, well it's actually 9.9 percent
below what the CPI is.
If you look at what the Social Security Administration has been giving since 2019 and you compare
that to our increases. This January will be down 9.9% compared to them. So that's
significant and let's see so yeah so they are actually at in January they'll
be at 23.9% and will be it. Is that it? Yeah unfortunately I should have warned
Huh? Yeah, can I get a few more seconds? I didn't get a warning. Yeah finish the sentence and

Yeah, I just can't rationalize how
as a building inspector we bring in millions of dollars and
We can't keep up with the cost of living even with proposition

Thank you for your time. Thank you. Thank you for coming and talking to us
Okay, I don't see any other possible public comment. So I guess we will
close the meeting here and
