Okay, welcome everyone to our Wednesday November 20th design review commission.
Can we have a welcome and roll call please?
Or just a roll call please.
Commissioner Riley.
Here.
Perfect.
Vice Chair Newsom.
I am here.
And Chair Case.
Here.
to welcome our new commissioner, Cricket Riley.
Yes, welcome.
All right, so we'd also love to do the official swearing in
of our new commissioner.
So if you don't mind moving to the podium.
Okay, hi Cricket Riley.
Do solemnly swear that I will support and defend
the Constitution of the United States
and the Constitution of the State of California.
Against all enemies.
foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of
the United States and the Constitution of the state of California, that I take this
obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well
and faithfully discharge the duties upon which I'm about to enter thank you
amazing thank you okay so as she makes her way back to her seat we'll move on
to our consent calendar so this is for items placed on the consent calendar by
the Commission secretary and we have one item which is the adoption of the
proposed 2025 Commission and Council calendar this was provided to us of head
of time did anyone have any questions comments or concerns it looked great to
me okay can we get a motion and all right I motion to approve the consent
calendar the consent calendar thank you I second okay we'll take a roll call vote
Commissioner Riley yes Vice Chair Newsom yes chair case yes motion carries the
calendar is adopted. Fantastic. All right at this point we'll move to item number
three, public communication. So this is reserved for a comment on items that are
not on the agenda being as there's no one in the room. I don't think we have a
ton of public comment. This evening we have no items for public hearing so
we're gonna move to item five which is commission considerations. So these are
items that are not required to be publicly noticed but where there is a
of staff presentation or question and answer period.
Anything from our commission?
Not I.
Not me either.
Welcome.
Yes, welcome.
Thank you.
We're excited to have you.
Okay, and then on to item number six,
the commission member and staff reports are announcements.
So our first item and only item
is a selection of a new signed subcommittee member.
Who's on it currently?
Peter and Phil, right?
Yes.
Who's not going to be on it?
Who are we replacing?
Well, I guess that goes along with my announcement
that I had.
Ah, perfect.
Commissioner Weingarten has been commissioned,
I'm not sure what the right word is,
but to London for work.
And he's going to be there for an unknown period of time.
It could be a month, it could be a year.
Oh, shoot.
If it's a year, then he would likely need to,
unfortunately need to resign as you can only miss,
I think you need to be president at 75% of the meetings.
I don't know that that would allow him to do that.
Right.
So, I think he'll, we'll know more in the coming weeks
and I can report back,
but I do not think he's gonna make the December meeting
of which we will have a meeting,
there's a couple items on that.
Okay.
In that case, saying that we're likely going to need
to replace Commissioner Weingarten?
Okay.
So, cricket, just so you know,
the signed subcommittee is occasionally,
there is a master sign program,
and there's a small group of us
that will meet with those applicants
often prior to coming to design review,
so we can give some feedback and insight.
So the meetings are typically right before these meetings,
and they're just up on the third floor.
It has a similar protocol,
friendship runs it, and it's a whole thing.
And the signed subcommittee is three members.
It's two members from the Design Review Commission and myself as a voting member.
There was a resolution that gave authorization to a signed subcommittee back in the long
time ago for certain things like freestanding signs, recommendations on MSPs, and some other
types of signs that the signed subcommittee actually has authority over.
Is that of any interest to you? Otherwise we can assign it to Karen who's not here.
Is it, and forgive me if this is an incorrect question, is it just for commercial signs?
I'm assuming it's just for like commercial businesses, is that correct?
Okay yeah yeah multi-use housing like like if there was a multi-use complex or
housing multi-family housing although we kind of look at those as commercial
signs as well right sure why I'll try it yeah why not sure I'm in all right so I
nominate cricket. I second that nomination. Great. Do we have to do a
roll call on it or we're just good? Okay let's go ahead and do it just in case.
Okay so new Commissioner Riley for signed subcommittee member Commissioner
Case. Yes. Commissioner Newsom. Yes. Commissioner Riley. Yes. Three-O. You're up.
All right. Anything else for commission member and staff reports or announcements?
I just made mine I believe regarding Commissioner Weingarten so no. Okay. Okay so with that we
adjourn. 609. All done. All nine. 609.
