Consider and take action on any request from a Councilmember to participate in a meeting remotely due to emergency circumstances pursuant to Government Code Section 54953(f)(1). Receive notice that a Councilmember is participating in the meeting due to just cause circumstances pursuant to Government Code Section 54953(f)(1).
This portion of the meeting is reserved for comment on items not on the agenda. Under the Brown Act, the Council cannot act on items raised during public communications but may respond briefly to statements made or questions posed; request clarification; or refer the item to staff. Consistent with Section 9.5 of the City Council Handbook, thirty (30) minutes will be allocated at this time for public communications for items not on the agenda. Additional time for public communications for items not on the agenda will be provided at the end of the meeting if necessary.
This report provides an update to the City Council on progress made toward the five strategic priorities established for calendar years 2025 and 2026. Staff continue to implement the scopes of work adopted by Council in early 2025, and this report highlights notable accomplishments and significant progress. The Walnut Creek City Council will conduct a public hearing to consider waiver of reading and introduction of an ordinance amending the compensation for City of Walnut Creek Councilmembers from $650 per month to $1,600 per month, to be effective on December 1, 2026. The Council Chamber will have seating available for members of the public to attend in-person up to full capacity. Public comments are limited to two (2) minutes per speaker, unless a different time is announced by the Mayor. Speaker Identification cards are available in the Council Chamber. • REMOTE OPTION Beginning July 1, 2026, members of the public may provide oral public comment remotely through Zoom or by telephone during the live meeting, pursuant to California Government Code section 54953.4 (Senate Bill 707). If a disruption of telephonic or internet service occurs that prevents members of the public from attending or observing the meeting remotely, the City Council will recess for at least one (1) hour to allow staff to make a good faith effort to restore service, if feasible. • If service is restored in less than one (1) hour, the meeting may resume and the Council does not need to wait the full one (1) hour. • If service is not restored following one (1) hour, the Council may resume the meeting upon a roll call vote making findings that good faith efforts were made to restore service and that continuing the meeting serves the public interest more than the public interest served by remote public access.
